Specifically, Moogsoft AIOps 7.3 delivers these new capabilities:
- The Workflow Engine is now Generally Available, which lets DevOps and IT Ops teams construct custom logic for data-processing workflows using an intuitive user interface
- A new high-availability (HA) reference architecture boosts failover capabilities, fault tolerance and overall resilience while assuring best practice implementation
- The ability to personalize the look and feel of individual virtual workspaces increases productivity through improved algorithm-design precision, and configuration management.
With the Workflow Engine, IT Operations and DevOps teams gain the flexibility and power they need to automate the individual logic in the data path. It also lets them define what actions are to be done next in the data and process workflow, to increase both productivity and efficiency.
The Workflow Engine presents an easy-to-use interface that does not require scripting knowledge to add custom logic for event, alert, enrichment and situation processing, and to define actions within the workflow. In the simple example below (figure 1), an alert workflow is created to act upon all ingested alert data from multiple monitoring systems by searching for variants of location names of the city of “San Francisco” – such as “SF”, “San Fran”, “San Francisco, or “san_fran” – and normalize them as “SF_HQ,” the preferred location name.
It takes just minutes to create a workflow to search all of the different variations of a location name and normalize them to a standard naming convention. This typical workflow example highlights the power to apply a policy for standard naming conventions across multiple technology stacks such as application, cloud, network and infrastructure monitoring domains to provide helpful context for incident resolution and dashboard summaries.
In addition to alert processing, Workflow Engine provides a rich set of actions for situation processing to external systems for IT Operations and DevOps-level automation.
In this example (figure 2), Moogsoft AIOps 7.3 provides event-to-resolution automation to an external integration with ServiceNow, for more efficient incident management processes. This is a common workflow use case. Workflow Engine provides an easy way to define a comprehensive event-to-resolution automated workflow for the correlated alerts (the situation) to keep the system of record, ServiceNow in this example, up to date.
By applying the workflow logic at the situation process, alerts take on a larger role. At the situation level there may be thousands of alerts correlated together based on similarity. This is important as the objective is not to create one ticket per alert, but to create a ticket for a cluster of alerts to cut down on the volume of alerts hitting the operations teams.
Through combining the rich set of actions provided by Workflow Engine and the portfolio of Moogsoft integrations, IT Operations and DevOps teams have an efficient and effective solution to increase productivity, while reducing the costs of managing the volume, variety and velocity of events stemming from microservice and cloud-first architectures.Distributed High Availability ArchitectureMoogsoft AIOps is at the core of many organizations’ event-to-resolution automation environment, and they rely on the platform for service assurance across their CI/CD pipelines. With Moogsoft AIOps 7.3, all components have their own high availability (HA) mechanisms to provide failover capabilities for either single-site or distributed-deployment models. Strengthened Resilience and Failover
Moogsoft AIOps 7.3 provides support for automatic failover between the two nodes within an HA pair to improve the fault tolerance. Each component supports a multi-node architecture to enable redundancy, failover, or both to minimize the risk of data loss.
Moogsoft AIOps release 7.3 introduces Percona XtraDB Cluster as the standard system database for new Moogsoft AIOps on-premises installations. It provides significant performance, high availability and scalability improvements compared to MySQL community:
- High availability
- Multi-master replication
- Zero data loss
- Increased read/write scalability
- ProxySQL load balancer
Cookbook Simmering – This new capability allows a situation to remain active based on selected criteria. A typical use case is to let the situation keep cooking until there is a period of dormancy, and then move on. Should events continue to arrive while the incident is being investigated, Moogsoft AIOps will detect ongoing event activities and continuously extend the clustering window to ensure all alerts are clustered together within the situation.
Situation Preview – This added capability allows for Operator and Administrator personalization of their environment with screen-layout and alert-data presentation, greatly improving operator efficiency and situational awareness (figure 3.0). A collapsible left-navigation icon now toggles between increasing or resizing the screen real-estate for IT Operations teams.
SOC 2 Type II Security Attestation
As announced back in July, Moogsoft achieved SOC 2 Type II Security Attestation. This milestone is particularly significant for companies including publicly traded enterprises, financial firms and healthcare organizations that have compliance requirements that require SOC 2 audits. SOC 2 compliance is fully supported in Moogsoft AIOps release 7.3.
The Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type II is the widely recognized attestation standard issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) which measures a standardized set of security and data practice criteria, requirements and controls. Moogsoft has committed to an annual review of these practices to ensure continued SOC 2 compliance.New IntegrationsA number of new native integrations are now available. These include:
Splunk Streaming Plugin – This is a great new plugin for streaming saved search results to Moogsoft AIOps. This enriches Splunk data that has already had a search processed on it. This is valuable data that can be further refined and actionable through Moogsoft AIOps Event to Resolution Automation. See the Splunk documentation site for more information.
Office 365 Exchange Online – This integration enables email retrieval from Office 365 Online where Moogsoft AIOps can analyze them as events. Moogsoft AIOps 7.3 supports:
- Parsing out of: “To:”, “CC:”, and “Subject”
- IMAP, POP3, SMTP protocols
- “API Key” and OAuth authentication
Sensu and Site 24×7 integrations were also announced in this release.
