The number and variety of AIOps benefits far outweigh the cost of implementation. Research from EMA highlights that 81% of enterprises have received value that exceeds costs.
Enterprises are reaping major benefits from AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations), which now ranks as the most successful IT analytics investment, edging out big data stores and customer experience analytics.
That’s one of the main findings from research conducted by Enterprise Management Associates and discussed in detail during the recent webinar “Deploying AIOps in the Real World: What’s the Winning Combination?”
“AIOps led the charge on success rate,” said Dennis Drogseth, VP at Enterprise Management Associates, an IT and data management analysis firm.
Most enterprises surveyed by EMA (81%) also indicated that the value they get from AIOps exceeds its cost, including 42% who said it does so “dramatically.”
AIOps delivers results
A reason for its high success rate is that AIOps offers a platform that “does a lot of the work for you,” he said. By contrast, other IT advanced analytics solutions require deep data science expertise.
Mark Milinkovich, Moogsoft’s Senior Director of Product Marketing, concurred with this analysis and said it’s in line with Moogsoft’s product strategy.
“We believe in the platform approach,” Milinkovich said during the webinar, which was hosted by Moogsoft. “We see commercial applications of AIOps algorithms as being key to IT Ops and DevOps teams.”
AIOps also led as the option that’s preferred by larger enterprises, and that supports a broader range of use cases, Drogseth said. It also ranked at the top for having broader support for third-party toolset integrations, and stronger support for integrated automation, including AI bots.
A broad array of AIOps use cases
EMA’s research also found that enterprises are using AIOps in a variety of use cases, which shows its remarkable versatility and breadth of applications and functions. According to EMA, the six most common use cases for AIOps are:
- Cross-domain application infrastructure and performance
- Capacity management and infrastructure optimization
- DevOps / Agile
- Customer and end-user experience management and business alignment
- Cost management
- Change management
Likewise, AIOps platforms support a broad swath of stakeholders, so its benefits touch many different teams. EMA identified 19 such roles, ranging from cloud management, database management, and application management, to data analysis and business operations.
AIOps also brings together disparate, siloed monitoring tools, giving IT Ops and DevOps teams a unified view into their environments. According to EMA’s research, AIOps assimilates on average 23 monitoring or other tools.
AIOps is Key for DevOps
AIOps has also emerged as crucial for DevOps pipelines in particular. An overwhelming majority of enterprises surveyed by EMA -- 97% -- said they are either planning or actively using DevOps with advanced analytics products, including AIOps.
So how does AIOps improve event management and monitoring in DevOps environments? For starters, it optimizes application performance by providing rapid feedback to development from production.
It also cuts the time developers spend troubleshooting production performance issues. DevOps teams find that insights and analysis from AIOps helps them optimize application design, and improve end user experience.
As a result, DevOps teams can create more custom apps, release more code to production, and achieve full remediation of issues -- instead of settling for stopgap workarounds.
This is consistent with what Moogsoft has seen from its customers. “AIOps and DevOps are like peanut butter and jam,” Milinkovich said. “They’re a fantastic match.”
Moogsoft Express, now in beta, was designed from the ground up to be an all-in-one AIOps and observability solution for DevOps and SRE teams.
With Moogsoft Express, cloud-first companies can detect and resolve IT incidents faster and
deliver continuous service assurance for their critical digital services.
“Moogsoft is doubling down in terms of DevOps. It’s a key initiative for us going forward,” Milinkovich said.
Other key findings
EMA’s research sheds lights on several other key areas for AIOps, including:
- It’s considered the most critical for IT incident war-room decisions and resolutions
- It’s redefining and transforming IT Service Management, including a possible ticketless future
- It’s key for making digital transformation initiatives a success
